Britain’s Prince Edward visited Perth’s Kings Park today (07.11.14) to present young people with their gold Duke of Edinburgh awards.
The 50-year-old royal – who is the youngest of Queen Elizabeth II’s four children – has been on a whirlwind tour of Australia for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award over the past five days.
He’s been visiting with a number of organisations to commemorate the country’s 50-year participation in the adventure and community service scheme that was set up by his father, Prince Philip, in 1956 to recognise young people’s achievements.
Prince Edward’s journey began in Sydney on Monday (03.11.14) with a visit to the New South Wales Parliament.
And yesterday (06.11.14) he attended the ‘Kings of the Kitchen’ fundraising dinner at Crown Perth with chefs from prestigious restaurants Nobu, Fraser’s and Leeuqin Estate preparing the dishes.
Edward – who is married to Sophie, Countess of Wessex – brought his tour to an end with a trip to the stunning King’s Park for the Duke of Edinburgh ceremony.
And, together with Western Australia’s governor Kerry Sanderson, he presented gold awards to recipients.
Approximately 300,000 young people aged 14-24 around the world take part in the scheme each year.
