One Direction confirmed for Band Aid 30

One Direction have been announced for Band Aid 30.

The ‘Steal My Girl’ hitmakers are the first act to have been confirmed for the charity single which is being organised by Sir Bob Geldof to raise money for the Ebola crisis.

An insider revealed: "Sir Bob has gone all out to get the biggest names in pop for the fourth release of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’"

The five-piece boyband are thought to have been the top choice of acts to appear in the re-recording, with organisers also rumoured to have contacted Adele, Ben Howard, Alt-J and Florence Welch to take part in the musical extravaganza.

The source told The Sun newspaper: "Harry, Louis, Zayn, Liam and Niall were among the first stars on the organisers’ list and they jumped at the chance to get involved.

"As with previous Band Aid releases, there’s likely to be a mix of credible and pop acts featuring on the recording."

The new version of the festive hit is set to be recorded later this month in the hope that it can reach the top spot in the Christmas singles chart, going up against competition from Tom Odell, Samuel L. Jackson, and the winner of ITV singing contest ‘The X Factor’.

The original recording of the track in 1984 featured Bono, Sir Paul McCartney, Paul Weller and Boy George, and is the biggest selling single of all time in the UK.

The forthcoming re-recording of the track will be the fourth incarnation of the song, following other releases in 1989 and 2004.
