Roxy Music split

Roxy Music have officially broken up.

The band’s guitarist Phil Manzanera announced the news in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, following three-and-a-half years of inactivity by the legendary band.

Confirming that Roxy Music – also comprised of lead singer Bryan Ferry, saxophone player Andy Mackay and drummer Paul Thompson – had split, Phil said: "I don’t think we’re going to do any more shows. I think our job is done. When we stopped touring in 2011, Andy and I looked at each other and said, ‘Our job is done here.’ "

Together the art rock band released eight albums in their career, which began in 1971, with their last album ‘Avalon’ being released in 1982.

After dissolving in 1983, the group reformed in 2001 to celebrate their 30th anniversary touring the world and playing sell-out shows.

Phil admitted he had grown tired of playing the same songs over again, after a proposed new album failed to get off the ground, and now Roxy Music are no more he is planning to launch a solo album of his own in 2015.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said: "Musicians like to do new things. It’s unfortunate for the fans, really, because they would like you to play the same old stuff forever and ever. And they go see it and they feel like, ‘Man, they aren’t as good as they used to be.’

"I’m very happy doing new things. I’ve got a couple of albums coming in the next year."
