David Walliams ‘is unloved’ by Pudsey the adventure dog

David Walliams admits he’s unloved by the character he voices in ‘Pudsey: The Movie’.

The 43-year-old entertainer – who is best known for his comedy partnership with Matt Lucas in the popular sketch show ‘Little Britain’ – first met Pudsey in 2012, when the adventure dog won ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and Walliams was subsequently asked to voice the main part in the comedy film.

Asked what attracted him to the unusual role, Walliams explained: "I really love Pudsey [but] Pudsey doesn’t seem to love me back… in fact, he never seems to recognise me or remember me!

"I know Pudsey is a very special dog, because over the years I have worked on things where they’ve brought in animals to do scenes and things – rarely does the animal actually ever do what you’d like it to do.

"But Pudsey is so many brilliant things, he could do so much personality I just thought I’d love to be involved in it."

Walliams – who stars alongside Jessica Hynes, 42, and John Sessions, 61 – continued: "I got Pudsey to be involved with an adaptation of one of my chidren’s books ‘Mrs. Stink’, which was about 18 months ago.

"He was absolutely brilliant in that – stole the show – so I thought it would be lovely to be associated with this."

‘Pudsey: The Movie’ is available on DVD from November 10, courtesy of eOne.
