The ‘Affair’ star, who previously admitted he and his German girlfriend of eight years are unlikely to ever marry, doesn’t like referring to the blonde beauty as his girlfriend because they have been together for so long.
He said: "There’s not a term between girlfriend and wife, and life partner just sounds depressing. It’s been so long, I just call her my wife."
The 36-year-old actor is looking forward to spending the rest of his life with the 38-year-old beauty and tries not to take her for granted.
He told Us Weekly magazine: "The times we’ve gotten in trouble are when we’ve gotten complacent. If you remain focused, it will reward you."
The former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star also claimed in the past that one of the reasons for them not tying the knot was because they don’t follow religion.
He said: "I can tell you why we’re not married: We’re not religious. I don’t feel any more or less committed to Diane for not having stood in front of a priest and had a giant party.
"We’re both children of divorce, so it’s hard for me to take marriage at face value as the thing that shows you’ve grown up and are committed to another person. But it may change at some point. We may get married."
