Dev Patel is in negotiations to star in ‘Lion’.

The upcoming drama is to be pitched to buyers by The Weinstein Company at the American Film Market in Los Angeles, California next week and Dev is now attached to star alongside Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.

The script – which has generated major buzz and is expected to be a top seller at this year’s market – is based on a Vanity Fair magazine article and follows a street kid from Calcutta in India (Patel), who is taken in and adopted by a couple in Australia, played by Kidman and Jackman.

The film would see Jackman and Patel reunited after co-starring in the upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Chappie’, from ‘District 9’ director Neill Blomkamp, while Kidman and Jackman last appeared alongside one another in Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Australia’ in 2008.

The 24-year-old actor will next appear in John Madden’s sequel ‘The Second Best Marigold Hotel’, which is scheduled for release in March next year.
