Jake Bugg performs biggest show

Jake Bugg performed his biggest headline show to date in London on Tuesday (21.10.14).

The ‘Lightning Bolt’ hitmaker didn’t need to rely on dazzling visuals, witty banter or an array of backing performers for his show at Alexandra Palace, instead keeping the crowd entertained with his haunting vocals and musicianship, supplemented by a low-key backing band.

His 20-song, 75-minute set kicked off with ‘Messed Up Kids’ and ‘Seen It All’ and set the tone for the night, swiftly followed by a number of other tracks from his two albums, the eponymous debut and follow-up ‘Shangri La’, with ‘Kingpin’ a particular highlight.

The 20-year-old star – who spoke very little between songs – performed one new track, ‘Hold on You’ had a bluesy tone which suggested his next album won’t be much of a departure from the formula which has proved so successful until now.

Ballad ‘Broken’ subdued the tone of the set with the audience listening in enthralled silence, but the atmosphere moved swiftly upwards again with the rousing finale of ‘Lightning Bolt’, after which Jake left the stage and didn’t return for an encore.

Following his UK tour, Jake is now heading to North America to support the Black Keys on the road.
