Jessie Ware almost "ruined" her now-husband’s proposal by being "bossy".
The 30-year-old singer – who tied the knot with childhood sweetheart Sam Burrows in August – got engaged on holiday in Greece but initially thwarted Sam’s attempts to pop the question.
She explained "I almost ruined the proposal because I’m a bossy cow. We were in Greece and he tried to propose the day before and there were some wasps where we were sitting so I was like, ‘I can’t be here.’
"Then the next day he wanted to walk down these stairs we’d just walked up and I told him, ‘Babe, I’ve just schlepped up here, I’m not walking back down.’ He said, ‘We’re taking the stairs’ and that’s when I thought, ‘A-ha!’ "
Jessie says their wedding day was very "special", but unconventional.
She recalled to Stylist magazine: "It was so special, Sam and I have been together for 11 years.
"It wasn’t a formal wedding though – I walked down the aisle to ‘Your Love Is King’ by Sade and we sang Al Green songs instead of hymns.
"I have a speech because why do only men get to speak at weddings? My mother gave a speech too, as did my main of honour, who I thought was going to annihilate me but was actually really nice."
