Tom Hardy in talks for Suicide Squad

Tom Hardy, Ryan Gosling and Will Smith are close to signing on for new superhero movie ‘Suicide Squad’, according to reports.

The trio of actors are in negotiations with Warner Bros. about lead roles in the DC Comics adventure as well as actress Margot Robbie.

According to Deadline, early talks have gone well and the four stars are keen to sign up for the blockbuster, which is scheduled to be the next DC release after 2016’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

The project will be directed by David Ayer and is scheduled for a mid-to-late 2016 release.

The Suicide Squad – who first appeared in DC Comics in 1959 – is comprised of imprisoned supervillains who are used covertly by the US government for black-op missions in return for pardoned prison sentences.

The line-up of the team changed on the comics throughout the years but notable members have included Deadshot, King Shark, Black Manta, Harley Quinn and Deathstroke.

The casting news follows the announcement of several new DC films this week.

Gal Gadot is to star in a solo ‘Wonder Woman’ movie, following her debut in the role in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, Ezra Miller is to bring ‘The Flash’ to life on the big screen, while Jason Momoa will portray ‘Aquaman’ – who will also appear with Batman and Superman in the 2016 blockbuster – in a title film.
