Usher was thrown a surprise birthday party on Tuesday (14.10.14).
The ‘Scream’ hitmaker was greeted at New York nightspot The Box by his friends Trey Songz, L.A. Reid, DJ Ruckus, DJ Cassidy and Def Jam’s Shawn Pecas and was stunned at the celebration they had planned to mark him turning 36 that day.
A source told the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column: "He was shocked."
Usher was treated to two burlesque shows and was even brought on stage at one point, where he was whipped by performers and presented with an elaborate birthday cake.
DJ Mick was behind the decks, entertaining guests with old-school hip-hop music and the revellers indulged in a variety of cocktails, including Old-Fashioneds, Moscow mules and martinis.
Following the festivities, Usher thanked his fans for all their birthday messages and shared some pictures from the party, including one of him on stage with the dancers.
He tweeted: "Thank U everyone for all the amazing bday wishes! Feels good to be 28 [wink] Love y’all (sic)"
Justin Bieber was one of the people to wish the singer a happy birthday, sharing an old photograph of himself and his mentor at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in 2009.
He wrote alongside the image: "Happy birthday @usher #throwback (sic)"
