Hans Zimmer working with Johnny Marr on new album

Composer Hans Zimmer is working with Johnny Marr on his next album.

The Oscar-winning musician has previously collaborated with the ex-Smiths star on the scores for the movies ‘Inception’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ and now they are going to swap roles and Zimmer is going to write the arrangements for his next solo LP.

Zimmer told BANG Showbiz: "Johnny’s work on film scores is great.

"I always want to work with Johnny, he’s actually got a plan – I don’t want to talk about it too much – and he’s roped me into something now, we’re going to be doing a bit of role reversal. I’m going to be his humble arranger, which is going to be fun. It will be a case of Johnny telling me what to do and I’ll do it. It will be for his next album … Johnny is the most generous, brilliant and wonderful and polymorphic human being I know. You want to go and talk to him about paintings, you want to talk to him about literature, you want to talk to him about politics you better put a lot of time aside."

The ‘Interstellar’ composer performs his first-ever concerts in the UK at the Eventim Hammersmith Apollo this Friday (10.10.14) and Saturday (11.10.14).

‘Hans Zimmer Revealed’ will feature music from his entire career and from films such as ‘Gladiator’, ‘The Lion King’ and ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy and Marr – who has just released his new album ‘Playland’ – will be joining his friend on stage at both dates.

Zimmer, 57, revealed: "Johnny will be coming to play a little guitar, and maybe a couple of other people as well. I want to feature the musicians I work with and who I’ve been working with for 30 years because they are not boring they are a pretty exciting bunch.

"Johnny and I have previously done a couple of shows together, we did a performance at the premiere of ‘Inception’ that was really good – even if I say so myself!"

He also hinted at a possible appearance by Pharrell Williams, whom he worked with on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’.

Zimmer said: "I know Pharrell Williams is London at the same time. Me and Pharrell are definitely going to have a drink, we’ll see what else happens!"
