James Bond villain Geoffrey Holder has died.
The Trinidadian actor, who was best known for his role as Baron Samedi 007 film ‘Live and Let Die’ passed away on October 5, 2014, aged 84.
A family spokesperson revealed that Geoffrey died in his New York home after complications caused by pneumonia. He is survived by his wife, Carmen de Lavallade and their son, Leo Anthony Lamont.
A talented actor and dancer, Geoffrey appeared in many Hollywood hits over the years, choreographing and starring in the 1973 Bond adventure as voodoo criminal Baron Samedi opposite Sir Roger Moore.
In 1975 he was awarded two Tony Awards for his work on the Broadway production of ‘The Wiz’, including the coveted Best Direction of a Musical award.
He also featured in the movie musicals, ‘Annie’ (1982) and ‘Doctor Dolittle’ (1967). In 2005, he was asked to use his distinctive voice to narrate the Tim Burton remake of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ which starred Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.
Following the announcement of his passing, Samuel L. Jackson took to Twitter to mourn the star. He wrote: "I brush up against Fame all the time, but encountering GREATNESS is Rare! RIP Mr Holder!! (sic)"
