Jason Bateman has learned to "fight quick" with his wife.
The 45-year-old actor – who has daughters Franny, seven, and Maple, two, with spouse Amanda – believes it is important to resolve domestic disputes as soon as possible because there is no getting away from one another.
He said: "Siblings don’t necessarily have to forgive you [after a row], but they have to put up with you because you’re not going away.
"But that’s like a mate, too. I remember when my wife and I first moved in together, the first thing I learned to do was to fight quick. If you’re going to stay under the same roof, eventually you’re going to make up."
The ‘This Is Where I Leave You’ actor values his time off from work because he doesn’t get much chance to see his kids when filming.
He told USA Today newspaper: "Unless you’re shooting close to your city, there’s really no way to see them until you’re done with production.
"So when you are with your kids and you’re home, you just really try to be present."
And Jason loves watching his kids together, particularly as Franny is only just getting round to accepting having to share her parents’ attention.
He added: "Franny is still trying to make a friend of Maple.
"She likes the pure-white spotlight on her. But she’s starting to take ownership. It’s her sister as opposed to our daughter."
