Man jailed for plotting to kill Prince Harry

A man who admitted plotting to kill Britain’s Prince Harry has been jailed for three years.

Convicted criminal Ashraf Islam, 31, disagreed with the work of the Armed Forces and planned to kill Prince Harry, who served 77 days on the front line in the Afghanistan war.

According to BBC News, Judge Richard McGregor-Johnson called the plot "vague and unlikely to succeed" at London’s Isleworth Crown Court but said Islam presented a risk to the public.

The criminal, who had been living in west London but had no permanent address, was arrested on May 23 last year when he handed himself into police, just 24 hours after soldier Lee Rigby was murdered in Woolwich.

Islam, a convert to Islam formerly known as Mark David Townley, has previous convictions for dishonesty and for involvement in an attempted robbery.

He said he had the "moral right to judge" and planned to kill the 29-year-old royal because he served in the military and hand "blood on his hands".

Judge McGregor-Johnson said in court: "This was not a threat made in isolation.

"The examination of your computer revealed you conducted research on his (Prince Harry’s) whereabouts and intentions. You had given the matter considerable thought."

Prince Harry also trained to be a Apache Helicopter with the Army Air Corps but is now taking up an army office job and will become a Staff Officer at HQ London District, which organises ceremonial events such as the Trooping of the Colour and state visits.
