Great British Bake Off rocked by sugar paste cheat

‘Great British Bake Off’ is set to be rocked by a cheat this week.

The BBC One baking show will be thrown into turmoil when one of the contestants blatantly fails to stick to the rules by bringing in some shop-bought icing to decorate their 3D biscuits, despite being told everything must be homemade.

Before the challenge, Mary Berry tells the contestants: "We don’t want to see anything bought in. We want it all homemade."

But eagle-eyed Mary and fellow judge Paul Hollywood spot something unsavoury about one contestant’s fondant and challenge them, leaving the cheat with no option but to admit they didn’t make the product themselves.

Speaking to hosts Sue Perkins, and Mel Giedroyc, a disappointed Paul says: "This is an issue.

"They used bought in sugar paste.

"If they had made it then I would have been more impressed."

This comes after Mary previously admitted both she and Paul cheat when it comes to pastry as they both often opt for a ready-made version of the product because making it from scratch takes too long.

She previously said: "Seriously I wouldn’t dream of making filo pastry because it would take me a long time.

"And Paul doesn’t make it either. It’s very thin. I made it at college and know the principles."

‘Great British Bake Off’ airs on Wednesday (13.08.14) at 8pm on BBC One.
