Verity Rushworth’s Emmerdale exit was therapeutic

Verity Rushworth found her ‘Emmerdale’ exit therapeutic.

The 28-year-old actress, who returned to the show earlier this year, will bow out of the ITV soap next week when her alter-ego Donna Windsor dies, and Verity admits the tears she’s cried during the emotional scenes have helped her deal with the departure.

She told SoapSquawk.com: "It’s the end of an era, I grow up with the show and it felt like going home. It feels weird that it’s completely, definitely, over for me.

"I had a break, which was lovely, and now it feels like I’ve gone full circle and it’s completion. I feel like I have had therapy because of all the crying, it’s like I’ve released all this emotion and now I’m ready to let it lie."

It is unknown whether Donna, who is suffering with Mesothelioma, will lose her battle against lung cancer or whether her dodgy dealings with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) will tragically cut her life short.

However, Verity – who played Donna for 11 years between 1998 and 2009 – admits the final scenes will be extremely dramatic and heart-wrenching for viewers.

She said: "It’s very full on and she’s going through turmoil. It’s the big build up!"
