Britian’s Sophie, Countess of Wessex spins plates

Britain’s Sophie, Countess of Wessex has learnt how to spin plates.

The 49-year-old royal – who is married to Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son Prince Edward – was taught the impressive skill while attending the annual Yorkshire Show in Harrogate, Northern England.

Mark Taylor – who has been teaching circus skills and running workshops for children’s parties, schools and fetes for over five years decided to take the opportunity to add a royal name to his client list.

He said: "I know the organisers and every year when I go down to the show I always say, ‘If you ever get royalty coming to the show, I’m going to teach them to spin plates.’

"I was there three days this year in the Discovery tent with my circus skills drop-in workshop."

The father-of-two admits he was expecting the Countess – who has daughter Lady Louis Windsor and son James, Viscount Severn with Prince Edward – and when she arrived she was more than up for giving it a go.

Speaking to Gazette Live, he added: "I knew that the Countess was supposed to be visiting so when she walked in the tent and came towards me I just passed her a plate – a blue one of course.

"When she first started it nearly hit her in the head. She said, ‘I hope you know I’m not good at these things’.

"I haven’t met much royalty before but she was really lovely and wasn’t afraid to meet people and try all the different things at the show."
