Michael Douglas surprised by nothing

Michael Douglas insists "nothing" surprises him anymore.
The 69-year-old actor – who has battled tongue cancer and split briefly from second wife Catherine Zeta-Jones last year – identified a lot with his new film ‘And So It Goes’, in which he plays a man whose granddaughter moves in with him after her drug-addicted father is sent to prison because of his own experiences with son Cameron, who has been incarcerated for drug offences since 2009.
Asked if his own experiences drew him to the movie, he told the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column: "You read a script and you smile in those pieces…that come close to your story.
"I guess at this point in my life, at my age, you’ve gone through so many things that nothing really surprises you."
Michael – who has children Dylan, 13, and 11-year-old Carys with Catherine – had the option to make changes to the script, but was happy with the dialogue he was given.
Director Rob Reiner said: "He said just leave it the way it is. It obviously must have been tough for him."
The ‘Behind the Candelabra’ actor recently admitted he has learned to appreciate his wife more as he has gotten older.
He said: "A lot of it has to do with age. When you’ve accomplished a certain amount in your career, you’re not so focused on your ambitions. It makes you appreciate – and hopefully you do that sooner rather than later – the value of your partner."
