Martin Kemp wishes Tom Hardy for Cray Twins role

Martin Kemp wished Tom Hardy luck for playing both Kray Twins in ‘Legend’.

The 52-year-old actor starred as Reggie Kray in 1990’s drama ‘The Krays’ and insists he had enough difficult job portraying just one of the brothers.

Kemp admits Hardy who is in talks to play the both Reggie and Ronnie Kray – who were known as perpetrators of organised crime in the East End of London during the 1950s and 1960s – may be taking on an ambitious role.

When asked if he had any advice for Hardy for playing the London gangster brothers, Kemp told BANG Showbiz: "He’s gonna play both parts, interesting. I had enough trouble playing one part. Tom’s a great actor. That’s his decision so I wish him luck. I don’t have any advice – it is just another role but playing both characters hmm … they weren’t identical twins, they were slightly different. I just wish him luck – it is just another role."

Meanwhile, Kemp who recently directed British crime drama ‘Top Dog’, wanted to create a piece which was different to other things he’d worked on.

He added: "What I wanted to try and do was to make a performance film. So it was all about the acting. It was about what happens behind closed doors – what are the knock on effects of the fightings that had gone off between the boys. Looking at the fights and the guys from the woman’s eye, from the woman’s perspective and in that way it became a performance film.

"I have seen lots of films where it’s just fights and the performance sometimes lack. And I didn’t want to make that -I wanted to make a rounded film."

‘Top Dog’ is out now on Blu-ray and DVD through Universal Pictures.
