‘That would be torture’: Rosalía can’t bear to listen back to her albums

Rosalía never listens back to her albums because it’s like “torture”.

The Latin superstar is a perfectionist and could carry on tweaking her music, so much so that the digital and vinyl versions of her latest LP, 2025’s LUX, are different.

She told CBS Sunday Mornings: “I couldn’t do this [make changes] for too long, because otherwise it would be interminable.

“Like, I can be forever doing it.”

Asked if there are things she would change post-release, she said: “Yeah, always. The mix, the violins here, they could be half a dB up. Or my voice here, I could have done another take.”

However, she refuses to go back and listen to her music one it’s out in the world.

Rosalía said: “I never listen to my albums. ‘Cause it’s pointless.”

She added: “I create to share it, to let it go.

“Why would I listen it back? That would be torture!”

Rosalía recently teamed up with Irish indie outfit Fontaines D.C. on the Dopamine Chamber track Where Is Gone? – and her Irish rock connections don’t stop there. The singer also inspired and helped shape the Spanish lyrics on U2’s The Mirror Maker (Rosalía) from their upcoming album, Carnaval de Luz.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she said of frontman Bono: “I don’t know him personally, but he texted me and told me that he had this new project and this song, The Mirror Maker.”

Rosalía laughed that he had made up some words.

She told him: “I don’t know, but feel free to invent your own language.”

It was a huge honour getting to work with the 66-year-old music veteran.

She said: “Bono is a legend.

“It’s incredible.”

Bono recently admitted he didn’t want to “look like a stalker” calling Rosalía to ask for her permission to name the song after her.
