Tim McGraw fights back tears as he’s inducted into Country Music Hall of Fame: ‘I’m going to cry’

Tim McGraw fought back tears as he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The 59-year-old singer and actor – who has three daughters, Gracie, 29, Maggie, 28, and Audrey, 24, with his wife, fellow country music superstar Faith Hill, 59 – got emotional as he took to the stage in front of the country music community.

Speaking at the annual Medallion Ceremony at the CMA Theater in Nashville on Sunday (18.10.26), he said: “I’m going to cry because I cry all the time.

“There’s a lot of oestrogen in my house.”

Tim admitted the only thing that could better the evening would be when Faith is inducted in the Hall of Fame.

He said: “The only thing that can beat this night is when you’re standing here and I’m sitting there.”

Speaking about their daughters, he said: “You’re the best thing we’ve ever made.

“Nothing in our careers even comes close.”

Tim also reflected on his younger years, when he only discovered who his biological father was aged 11.

He said: “I grew up in Start, La. Not a lot of people there.

“I spent a lot of years wondering where I really came from. Turns out I had two dads.

“The one who raised me was my stepdad, Horace Smith. Now, he would have never won any awards for how he treated my mother or us kids.

“And that house was a hard fire, but hard fire is how you make steel.

“When I was 11, I found my birth certificate in the name that I already knew from baseball.

“In fact, I had the card on my wall, McGraw.

“We met once that year and I never saw him again until I was 19 years old.”

Tim was formally inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame alongside Paul Overstreet, 71, and the Stanley Brothers.

The ceremony ended with everyone singing Will the Circle Be Unbroken, as is tradition.
