Geese’s Cameron Winter reacts to being the mystery artist on two new Phoebe Bridgers tracks

Cameron Winter has acted coy amid speculation he added his vocals to two tracks on Phoebe Bridgers’ upcoming album Lost Weekend.

The Geese frontman is rumoured to have provided the backing vocals on the track Kill Me and recorded a duet with Phoebe called I Can’t Wait.

Whomever it may be, they are credited under the pseudonym Son-John Johnson.

Rolling Stone quizzed Cameron on whether it is him, to which he quipped: “I’ll have to contact my lawyer.”

The 24-year-old indie star’s voice is instantly recognisable, but it looks like they want to keep the mystery alive.

It’s been an eventful album rollout for Phoebe.

She recently unveiled the tracklisting for Lost Weekend after it was “leaked” on the web.

Prior to that, she was forced to drop her label name following a “trademark dispute”.

Sharing the official tracklist, she captioned an Instagram post: “this got leaked so here it is !

“16 days !!!!! (sic)”

The album is due to launch on August 14 via Dead Oceans.

The Garden Song singer launched the indie label Saddest Factory Records in 2020, as an imprint to Dead Oceans.

However, six years later, she had to resign the title and release her clients’ music under Dead Oceans, with the only part of Saddest Factory Records remaining being the logo, a fine line drawing of a skeleton hand holding a normal hand.

In June, a statement on the label’s Instagram page read: “Due to a trademark dispute around the label’s name, moving forward all SFR releases will come out via Dead Oceans, with our logo sitting alongside the Dead Oceans logo to signify our involvement. Please follow @DeadOceans for updates and news about our community of artists.”

As the title suggests, the roster includes artists with emotional pull, including Charlie Hickey, Claud, Katie Gavin, Muna, and Sloppy Jane.

The name is a play on “satisfactory”, which often crops up in record contracts.
