David Walliams’ children’s book ‘The Boy in the Dress’ will be adapted for the TV.
The 42-year-old comedian’s first story will be dramatised by BBC One in time for Christmas 2014, following in the footsteps of his previous festive offerings ‘Mr Stink’ and ‘Gangsta Granny’.
Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley will join David in adapting the hour-long special, which tells the story of a 12-year-old cross-dressing boy and the thoughts and feelings of his friends and family.
David said: "I am over the moon that my first novel for children is going to be on BBC One at Christmas. I was very pleased with the adaptations of ‘Mr Stink’ and ‘Gangsta Granny’, and I trust ‘Boy in the Dress’ will delight and surprise a family audience."
BBC Controller, Shane Allen – who commissioned the show – said: "’Boy in the Dress’ is a very touching, hilarious and poignant story of why being different is something to celebrate. As with David’s other novel adaptations I have no doubt this will attract an exceptional cast and be a special Christmas treat for all the family."
David’s previous offerings pulled in high ratings for the channel with ‘Mr Stink’ attracting over seven million viewers in 2012 and ‘Gangsta Granny’ reaching 7.3 million viewers last year.
