‘I love his voice’: Lindsey Buckingham reveals his thoughts on Sam Fender

Lindsey Buckingham has shared his thoughts on Sam Fender’s music after his son suggested one of the North Shields star’s songs sounded uncannily like classic Fleetwood Mac.

In a new YouTube clip, Buckingham reacted to a live performance of People Watching from London Stadium and his son Will drew a comparison to his father’s signature guitar style. Buckingham admitted the resemblance wasn’t lost on him.

He told his son: “It’s hard to be objective about that, you know? I mean it did occur to me that maybe the guitar part was very much something I would do.”

Buckingham went on to say that the structure and emotional tone of the track also reminded him of his own approach to songwriting.

He explained: “The general kind of limits that the song puts on itself is very much like what we would do. It kind of holds a certain emotive space and never varies from there, you know, and he knows what that is and wants to hold on to it.”

The former Fleetwood Mac guitarist also revealed that his favourite Sam Fender track is Seventeen Going Under, praising the emotional weight Fender brings to his music.

Buckingham said: “I’m just looking forward to what he’s going to do because he seems to be evolving. I love the emotional tone he finds and holds. I love his voice. This is my favourite song.”

Meanwhile, a woman was recently charged following an attack on Buckingham.

The 76-year-old musician was pelted with an “unknown substance” outside a building in California on April 1, and Michelle Dick, 54, was slapped with multiple felonies over the incident.

Dick faces seven charges, including making criminal threats, felony vandalism, and assault with a deadly weapon involving a motor vehicle.

Dick has also been charged with stalking both Buckingham, and a person referred to as Stephanie N.

Buckingham was arriving for an appointment April 1 when a woman approached and threw the unidentified substance at him before fleeing the scene.

He was not injured in the attack. A warrant was subsequently issued for Dick’s arrest with bail set at $300,000.
