Chris Robinson clashes with Tampa crowd after ‘U.S.A.’ chants during Black Crowes show

Chris Robinson lit up social media after a tense showdown with fans at the Black Crowes’ Tampa date, where a burst of “U.S.A.” chanting brought the show to a standstill.

The band were gearing up to perform She Talks To Angels at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre on Sunday night (31.05.26) when their animated crow mascot popped up on the screens dressed like Uncle Sam – a symbol of American pride. The moment triggered patriotic chanting that rolled across the 20,000‑seat venue.

According to TMZ, the frontman sarcastically thanked those chanting for the “geography lesson” before questioning what the crowd had “to be so proud of right now.”

His reaction prompted both boos and cheers from the raucous audience, prompting Chris to fire back that the band had “real faith” and were “not afraid” or “ignorant.”

Some fans reportedly walked out, stunned that the singer – who has openly criticised the current political climate – pushed back so hard on the chant.

Chris has been vocal about the state of the world of late.

He told MOJO in March: “Look man, I’m almost 60.

“I don’t tell anyone what to do, because I don’t like to be told what to do. But I know right and wrong. The world’s teetering on the edge with all this bulls***, but if there’s a street fighting man out there, he’d got to be a young man, right? But these kids don’t seem to give a f***.”

The show was one stop on the band’s Southern Hospitality Tour 2026, which rolls into Augusta, Georgia on June 4 – and after the Tampa fallout, all eyes will be on how each city responds to their long‑running crow mascot, a chaotic, cartoon‑style creation inspired by retro troublemakers Heckle and Jeckle.
