Shed Seven confirm new album as Rick Witter says fresh songs are ready to record

Shed Seven are wasting no time after their huge chart comeback — frontman Rick Witter has revealed the band already have “a new set of songs” written and will head into the studio in May to start work on their eighth album.

The Britpop favourites dropped the news while celebrating their newly announced Shedcember X UK tour, which will see them play 23 dates across November and December.

Speaking to Jay Lawrence on Absolute Radio to mark the occasion, Witter ended up confirming that brand‑new material is officially on the way.

Reflecting on the band’s remarkable run — which saw them score two Number 1 albums in 2024 with A Matter of Time and Liquid Gold — Rick admitted the success still feels surreal.

He told Jay: “Yeah, (it was) amazing. It still hasn’t really sunk in to be honest.

“We have just written a new set of songs, so we’re gonna go in the studio next month and start recording that. So, there is more brand-new material and it sounds really good. So, we are very good at what we do, thank you!”

When asked whether a Number 2 would feel like a disappointment after their double chart‑topper, Rick laughed it off.

He said: “Well, it’s the position we find ourselves in isn’t it?! We’ve waited so long for a Number 1 and then they’re like buses, two came along at once.

“Obviously, that is what you want but at the end of the day, it’s a chart place isn’t it? As long as the songs are there forever and people love them forever, (chart position) doesn’t really matter.”

Rick also reflected on the band’s second wind after losing momentum in the late ’90s.

He said: “We’re enjoying what’s happening to us now kind of because of the fact that we kind of lost it a little bit (in the 1990s).

“So to get this chance again to behave like rock and rollers and be accepted is amazing, and to be able to still go out and play songs that we wrote in 1992 and everyone is singing every word of it, it’s amazing. So, we’re very thankful for that.”

The frontman also looked back at the 30th anniversary of their classic album A Maximum High, revealing the unlikely place many of its songs were written.

He added: “Do you know what though, we wrote that majority of that in … basically there’s a Cockerill’s potato plant just on the outskirts of York…

“So we wrote most of the songs for A Maximum High in this area, and not so long back they knocked that down and built a B and Q on the site. The exact point where they sell the sheds at B and Q is where we wrote ‘A Maximum High’. You couldn’t make it up could you?!”

Tickets for Shedcember X go on sale today (24.04.26), and Rick couldn’t be more excited.

He said: “We can’t wait to get out there up and down the UK … Expect the big hits along with a few surprises and the thrill of us all singing our hearts out together for a couple of hours. See you down the front.”
