Tyla reveals when she will drop ‘unapologetic’ and ‘fun’ 2nd album A-POP

Tyla is to release her second studio album, A*POP, in July.

The 24-year-old singer-songwriter – who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa – has dropped a trailer for her upcoming record, which will be released on July 24th, and she has teased fans can expect her new album to be “unapologetic” and “fun”.

On the vibrant trailer, words flash up that read: “A*POP dance, African, unapologetic, fun, for you, for me, confident, global.

“Tyla is A*POP. July 24. Pre-order now.”

Tyla also revealed she has penned a letter at the back of her special A*POP Royalty Gold Vinyl discs, which are available for pre-order for £34.99.

She wrote on Instagram: “Signed with love. pre- order available @ TYLAWORLD.COM

“I wrote a little letter at the back too

“I can’t believe it’s almost here!!! (sic)”

Tyla’s new album A*POP is said to be a “bold evolution” from her self-titled debut record, which she released in March 2024.

On the star’s website, it states about A*POP: “This 14-track album mesmerizes with Tyla’s signature sultry vocals, seamlessly blending amapiano, pop, and R B.

“A*POP is both a statement and a movement – a declaration that African music is pop music, with Tyla leading the charge at the forefront of a global shift.

“Featuring standout hits like “IS IT,” “CHANEL” and “SHE DID IT AGAIN (feat. Zara Larsson), A*POP invites you into Tyla’s immersive, vibrant world – a defining second album that cements her as a true global icon. (sic)”

Ahead of this year’s Grammy Awards, Tyla told Rolling Stone about her new album: “I just knew that as I lived through the making of the album, it was going to fall into place, which it did. I feel like I just did something really fresh and so Tyla.”

The star admitted she allowed herself to “dive into things and try whatever”.

She added: “Now that I’m doing it more often, I’m more open to whatever comes and letting it be that. Because whatever happens, is meant to happen at that time.

“When you’re in the rush of everything … you just only feel the glamour of it all. Which is amazing, but making something is so fun, and seeing it through, from beginning to end … I love building the world around things and just making it fun.”
