The Hippy Hippy Shake: Ringo Starr, 85, declares he’s still “the best dancer in rock and roll’

Sir Ringo Starr has boasted that he’s “still the best dancer in rock and roll”  at the age of 85.

The former Beatle shows no sign of slowing down, with the new country album Long Long Road out on April 24, and a tour with his All-Starr Band.

Rolling Stone asked Ringo if he considers himself “the best dancer in rock and roll”, to which he replied: “Yes, I agree.

“I’m just sort of a mover.”

The forthcoming album, preceded by the single Choose Love, out Friday (10.04.26), reunites him with producer T Bone Burnett, following last year’s surprise Nashville hit Look Up.

Once again Ringo surrounds himself with top‑tier talent, from new‑school bluegrass stars Molly Tuttle, Billy Strings and Sarah Jarosz to heavyweights Sheryl Crow and St. Vincent.

T Bone says writing for Ringo is “tremendous fun,” calling his voice “guide rails” for the songs.

Ringo says the album’s title reflects his own journey: “It’s a long, long road, brother,” he laughs — a line lifted from the newly twanged‑up version of Choose Love.

The record blends T Bone originals, Ringo’s own songs and a Carl Perkins cover, recorded between Nashville and Los Angeles.

His Nashville revival has been gathering pace: he made his Grand Ole Opry debut last year, filmed his Ringo and Friends special at the Ryman with guests including Jack White, and received a tribute from bandmate Sir Paul McCartney, who reminded fans Ringo was the Beatle who first pushed the band toward country music.

Now he’s heading back out with his All‑Starr Band, still bouncing around the stage like a man half his age.

Asked for the secret behind his stamina, he doesn’t miss a beat: “Well, you’ve got to eat more broccoli.

“All the good things about me, I blame broccoli for. So now I say, peace and love and broccoli.”
