M.I.A. has turned her hand at gospel and has teamed up with Kanye West’s Sunday Service choir

M.I.A. has confirmed details of a new album titled M.I.7., described as a gospel‑focused project.

Due for release on April 17, through her OhmniMusic label, the record follows her 2022 album MATA and is being launched alongside a new clothing line promoted as blocking 10G signals.

The album reflects her move toward Christianity and is presented as a “gospel record rooted in prayer, the Book of Revelation, and the Ark of the Covenant.”

The project includes contributions from the Sunday Service gospel choir, formed by Kanye West in 2019, and boasts seven songs divided into 16 tracks.

The lead single Everything is out now.

Last year, the Paper Planes hitmaker made her entire mixtape collection free online.

She said at the time: “It’s all over the place on the internet, people had their time with it, you can just listen to it here on OHMNI.

 “A mixtape precedes an era.”

MATA was all set to feature collaborations with Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj – but they were scrapped.

M.I.A. claimed she waited two years for Doja to record her verse for their collaboration.

The 50-year-old star vowed to release the album, even if she had to “leak it myself”, as she claimed a number of her featured artists took their time sending her their parts.

M.I.A. – whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam – wrote on her Instagram Story at the time: “Coming soon I promise.

“I had to wait 2 years for a Doja Cat verse…. Then a Nicki one… Then a…. Never mind.

“If MATA isn’t out [September] I will leak it myself.”
