Harry Styles Wembley gigs to give London £200 million economic boost

Harry Styles is set to generate a £200 million economic boost for London.

Analysis has suggested that the Aperture hitmaker’s 12-night residency at Wembley Stadium this summer on his Together, Together tour will lead to more than £700 million spent on tickets, travel and accommodation.

However, Styles is unlikely to match Taylor Swift – who generated almost £1 billion by performing 15 concerts in four British cities on her Eras Tour two years ago – because London is the only British location he has chosen to perform in.

The Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) said that the one-million-plus ticketholders for the Wembley gigs were expected to spend £709 million – including hundreds of millions of pounds on tickets.

Amsterdam, the city where the former One Direction singer begins his tour in May, could also be in line to benefit economically from Styles fans taking advantage of the Dutch capital’s straightforward travel links with the UK.

Kate Nicholls, the chair of UKHospitality, told The Times newspaper: “Music tourism is big business and even in these straitened times people are willing to travel for experience.

“This is an iconic performer in an iconic venue in the heart of the capital. You will get inbound tourists from Europe, America even.”

Harry will only be performing in seven cities on the Together, Together tour but explained that cutting down on travel will enable him to deliver a stronger show whilst taking better care of himself and those he works with.

He told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1: “I think it makes the show better.

“I think you can build something that doesn’t have to travel every night. I think the show itself is better.”

Harry added that the change is also about protecting his own well-being after years of constant movement.

The 32-year-old singer went on: “There’s something in this that allows me to stay in my life while I’m doing it, and therefore I think allows me to take care of myself better, which I think makes me better at doing the thing.”

Styles stressed that he isn’t ruling out touring entirely, but wants to explore a different model for now.

The American Girls artist explained: “It’s not like I’m saying I’ll never travel again, but I want to see what it looks like if you do it a different way.”
