Metallica add 16 dates to Las Vegas Sphere residency

Metallica have added 16 dates to their Las Vegas Sphere residency.

Less than one month after announcing an eight night residency titled Life Burns Faster, across four pairs of dates — October 1 and 3, 15 and 17, 22 and 24, and 29 and 31, 2026 – the band have announced an extension to bring the total to 24 shows.

In an announcement on their website, Metallica said: “This is it—we’re maxing out Life Burns Faster… more dates have been added to the run, bringing our upcoming Sphere residency to 24 shows.”

The run will follow the band’s No Repeat Weekend format, meaning each Thursday and Saturday show will feature completely different setlists.

The original statement said: “Surprise! The world’s worst-kept secret is now official… we are bringing our No Repeat Weekends to Sphere in Las Vegas this fall!!

“Our Sphere weekend residency, Life Burns Faster, will debut on October 1 3, with six more shows to follow. As you’ve come to expect, each set of shows will be No Repeat Weekends, meaning if you attend both the Thursday and Saturday shows, you will not hear the same song twice.

“Life Burns Faster set lists will span the entire catalog, enhanced by the venue’s immersive technologies that will allow you to experience the ’Tallica sound in new experiential dimensions. Whether you’ve seen us from the upper reaches of a stadium or arena, at an intimate club or theater gig, or from the Snake Pit, Sphere’s technology will present an entirely new live experience for everyone in the house…including us! From the sights (the world’s highest-resolution LED display that wraps up, over, and around the audience) to the sounds (immersive audio delivering unmatched clarity and precision to every guest) to the multi-sensory 4D technology, Sphere shows promise to deliver a totally unique experience each and every night.

“We are beyond excited to share this with the world in six months’ time and way psyched to go next level, it’s completely uncharted territory! This residency gives us another chance to reinvent how we interact with you guys in a live setting, and we can’t wait to see you there (sic).”

The residency marks the latest large scale project from a band that has spent the past two years touring the world on their M72 run, which has drawn more than four million fans across Europe, North America, the Pacific Rim and the Middle East. The tour’s rotating stage design and production have been widely praised as some of the most ambitious of Metallica’s career.

At the Sphere, the group will perform material from across their catalogue, with the venue’s technology — including its wraparound LED display, immersive audio system and 4D effects — used to reframe their live show in a new way.

The band say the experience will differ from stadium, arena and club performances, even for fans who have seen them from the Snake Pit on the M72 tour.

Drummer and co founder Lars Ulrich said the idea took hold the moment he saw the venue in action.

He said in a statement: “About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in ’23, I thought ‘We have to do this, it’s completely uncharted territory!’”

He continued: “This residency gives us another chance to reinvent how we interact with our fans in a live setting. We are beyond excited to share this with the world in six months time, and way f***in’ psyched to go next level!”
