Charli XCX reflects on ‘heavenly’ Wuthering Heights experience

Charli XCX found making the Wuthering Heights soundtrack to be a “heavenly” experience.

The 33-year-old pop star created the soundtrack for the new Emerald Fennell-directed drama film, which is loosely inspired by Emily Bronte’s 1847 novel of the same name, and Charli admits that she relished the opportunity to contribute to the movie.

Speaking to the BBC at the film’s UK premiere in London on Thursday (05.02.26), Charli explained: “I always like to work with polar opposites, and so this was honestly a dream project for me.

“When I first started making music, I was so inspired by, you know, so many of the references that Emerald and I were talking about, like Shakespears Sister to The Cure to, obviously, Kate Bush … So this was, yeah, it was really heavenly to work on this.”

Charli is also starring in The Moment, her new mockumentary film, and the singer recently opened up about her preparations for the project.

Speaking at a Q and A in Brooklyn, Charli – who released her acclaimed Brat album in 2024 – said: “I play — I hope — a slightly different version of my real self in this film. I don’t think I’m quite that much of a nightmare the whole time, but I wouldn’t really be the best person to ask about that.

“The thing about the Charli in the film is all of the scenarios that my character in the film goes through could have happened if I made slightly different decisions in my own life and in my own career.

“Obviously I assume that most of you here know that this is not what happened when it came to Brat and going on tour and things like that.”

Kylie Jenner makes a cameo appearance in the film, and Charli loved working with the make-up mogul on the project.

The Boom Clap hitmaker – who also stars alongside the likes of Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Hailey Benton Gates, Isaac Powell, and Alexander Skarsgard – said: “I really enjoyed shooting the Kylie scene, obviously.”
