Kim Petras wants to be ‘dropped’ from record label

Kim Petras has asked to be “dropped” from her record label.

The 33-year-old pop star has called on Republic Records to let her out of her deal, as she alleged the company has “refused” to set a release date for her upcoming album Detour.

In a post on X, Kim wrote: “I’m tired of having no control over my own life or career.

“I want to continue to self fund and self curate my own music.

“This is why I have formally requested to be dropped by @RepublicRecords.”

The German-born singer claimed the label is yet to confirm a release date for her third album, which will be the follow-up to 2023’s Feed The Beast and Problematique.

She said: “My album has been done for 6 months but my record label has refused to give me a release date or pay my collaborator’s for the work they’ve done.”

The Unholy hitmaker – who worked with Sam Smith on the track for his 2023 album Gloria – also opened up on an untitled music video she’s waiting to be unveiled.

She alleged: “Oh ya I also filmed and self funded a music video over 2 months ago for my next single that they also wouldn’t give me a release date for.

“Best MV I’ve ever done btw… 9 looks 6 setups 13 pairs of shoes…”

Kim accused the music industry of prioritising social media trends and “queerbaiting s***”, while insisting her new music is “tea”.

She continued: “I won a grammy 2 years ago… the music is TEA. Still no support.

“If it’s not a tiktok trend or 80s revival queerbaiting s*** these labels have no interest in supporting. (sic)”

However, she promised her fans that her third record will be released “regardless” of the situation with her label, who are yet to publicly respond.

She said: “My fans have waited long enough. I love u guys. I’m dropping Detour regardless. (sic)”
