Lady Gaga is gifting fans the Lady Gaga in Harlequin Live — One Night Only concert film on Christmas Eve (24.12.25).
The pop superstar’s Harlequin soundtrack album, which is nominated for Best Traditional Pop Album at next year’s Grammy Awards, is comprised of alternative versions of the tracks from 2024’s Joker: Folie à Deux (2024), in which Gaga portrays the DC Comics character Harley Quinn.
The concert was performed at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles on September 30, 2024, with only a handful of Little Monsters in the crowd.
Gaga said she chose Christmastime to share the concert film with the rest of the world as it’s “the perfect time to release something rebellious”.
Speaking in conversation with the Grammy Museum, Gaga said: “I’m feeling like: Why not? We have this thing that’s so special to us, so we’re just really happy to share it with the fans. “It’s kind of a rebellious project. And, by Harlequin standards, Christmas is the perfect time to release something rebellious.”
On why she didn’t release it right away, Gaga explained: “It was interesting — when we first saw the footage, we said, ‘This is not the right time to put this out.’ And we collectively agreed that we would allow the lore of the Belasco performance to bloom with the fans, until it felt like time… And so this is like a Christmas present.”
The performance includes rock covers of That’s Entertainment, If My Friends Could See Me Now and When the Saints Go Marching In, as well as the original song Happy Mistake.
Gaga was accompanied by a six-piece band for the set.
The concert film will premiere on Gaga’s YouTube channel at 4pm PT and midnight GMT.
Meanwhile, Gaga recently revealed she has been busy penning new music while on the Mayhem Ball Tour.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she said: “I’ve been making a lot of music, and it’s kind of the best making music when you get to see your fans every night because you’re energetically just right where you need to be.”
What’s more, The Weeknd – whose real name is Abel Tesfaye – sparked speculation that he might have collaborated with Gaga by posting an old photograph of the singer from her The Fame era on his Instagram Story.
Keeping tight-lipped, she said when Lowe showed her the post on his phone: “I love Abel! It’s all I can say.”
Reflecting on the 2008 photoshoot, she said: “In that photo, I look so immersed, completely in that moment.
“I remembered how I artistically directed every photo and every moment that I wanted my fans to see.”
She added: “It was really sweet that he posted that.”
The Timeless hitmaker shared the snap of Gaga standing in front of a black Lexus with the number plate LADYGAGA.
There was no caption, leaving fans guessing.
Around a year ago, there was speculation that The Weeknd was featured on Mayhem, but there was no sign of a duet when the record dropped in March.
