From fanfic dreams to real-life hangout: Olivia Rodrigo on hanging out with Harry Styles

Olivia Rodrigo can’t believe she got to hang out with Harry Styles after writing One Direction fan fiction at school.

The 22-year-old pop star is a massive Directioner – the name given to 1D fans – and had a surreal full-circle moment when she met up with the 31-year-old boy band member she used to fantasise over.

The Good 4 U hitmaker told the Music Makes Us podcast, she shared: “I used to write One Direction fan fiction when I was in elementary school.

“Many years later, I hung out with Harry Styles, and we got tea, and we walked around.

“And I got home, and I was like, ‘What the f***?’ I feel like I, like, wrote that in a fan fiction, and now I’ve lived it. That is so crazy how that can happen in your life.”

Olivia added: “I remember being like, ‘If I told 10-year-old Olivia, she’d be like, shut the f*** up, you’re lying.’”

Elsewhere on the podcast, the singer revealed she listens to Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill whenever she wants to lift her spirits.

Olivia is a huge fan of Alanis’ 1995 album, which featured hits such as Hand in My Pocket and Ironic, explaining that the record reminds her of “what [she’s] trying to go after” in life.

Asked which album helps her to “reconnect” with herself, Olivia told the Music Makes Us podcast: “Honestly, I listen to [Alanis Morissette’s] Jagged Little Pill when I’m feeling, like, I don’t know what to say or like, who am I?

“For some reason that album, just like, every part of what makes a human being a human being, it feels like it’s encapsulated in that record.”

The brunette beauty – who has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years – noted that “there’s so much anger and spite and jealousy but also so much joy and hope, all like intertwined into each other in such a beautiful way”.

Olivia added: “I f****** love that album as everyone on the planet does but I just think, it reminds me what I’m trying to go after.”
