Yungblud ‘can’t remember’ Grammy-nominated Changes performance at Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell concert

Yungblud “can’t remember” his performance of Changes at Ozzy Osbourne’s Back to the Beginning concert.

The 28-year-old singer has earned a Grammy nomination in the Best Rock Performance category for his powerful rendition of the Black Sabbath track during Ozzy’s farewell concert at Villa Park, Birmingham, in July but has little memory of the performance because of how intense it was.

Yungblud told The Hollywood Reporter: “It was the first time I’ve ever sung a piece of music to one person. I went into this weird, transformative state. I can’t remember it.”

Despite his lack of memory, Yungblud considers the performance to be the moment that the world started judging him differently as an artist.

The star – whose real name is Dominic Harrison – explained: “That was probably the moment – I think it was bubbling – but I think the world started paying attention after that.

“I watched that back, and I don’t know what the f*** came over me there.”

Yungblud’s was the only live performance to be nominated in the category this year and he thinks it is fitting that his love for Ozzy – who passed away just weeks after the gig – has been recognised.

The Zombie singer said: “It’s so amazing that it got nominated for rock performance as actually the only live performance in the category.

“I think it’s cool that something got critically acclaimed for me just telling the guy who got me into music and started everything for me that I love him.”

However, Yungblud had no clue that his performance was going to leave such a lasting impression.

He said: “Honestly, when I left the stage, I did not expect it to ignite that much. I knew it was magic… I felt like I was in a movie.

“I think it was the first time people had something in common with me – like, ‘Oh, f***, man, he just likes Sabbath. He just just likes Ozzy, like me.'”

Yungblud believes his Changes performance is a “moment in time” that cannot be replicated.

He said: “I think it’s not a performance on record when I could do 20 takes of it, when I got 20 goes of it, when I got to do drop-ins and when I got to do overdubs. It was a moment in time that happened, and it could never have been the same again. It was just a moment in time that was and never will be again. I think that’s beautiful about it.”
