Alessi Rose: ‘Lorde is my biggest inspiration’

Alessi Rose says Lorde is her biggest inspiration, as her music was like “poetry” growing up.

The 22-year-old indie-pop singer – who has been writing poetry since the age of 13 – is fast becoming a name to watch thanks to her gritty lyricism that has begun turning heads across the music scene.

Alessi – who made her debut in 2023 with ‘say ur mine’, which amassed more than 40,000 views in its first week – credits pop visionaries like Kate Bush and Lorde as her long-time creative inspirations.

Speaking exclusively to Bang Showbiz at the Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard on Saturday night (06.12.25) at the O2, she said: “I think Lorde was the first person I kind of listened to, a pop-star, where her music was poetry for me, and I think that is something really special

I have some songs that are written, that are very punchy, that kind of feel like the pop songs and music that we have on the radio, but some of them are hard to decode.”

The rising star – who released her debut EP Voyeur in July – a project described as confessional pop for its raw, unfiltered lyrics, says it’s important to channel emotions and embrace vulnerability.

She added: “I think a lot of the reason that I have found the audience that I have is because I share, everything happens to me mundane or otherwise and I think because I am a young girl, and a lot of my audience are young girls, they kind of are relating to the same things.

Also vulnerability is my way of working through things that bother me, If I didn’t write about things that made me a little bit vulnerable I couldn’t work things out in my head.”

Grounded in authenticity, Alessi admits she had no desire to debut as a perfectly polished pop star.

She said: “I never had the luxury of being a polished straight out of the gates pop star and I think that has been something that’s been liked. Because they see the inner workings of how it works and I think that’s important.

“Also I wouldn’t want to be polished straight away, it’s my first time experiencing all of this. I didn’t come from a family who worked in music or played a musical instrument.

I’m experiencing this for the first time, having a great time doing it and getting better and better as the day goes on and I think that’s encouraging to anyone wanting to be in music or any creative. Because if you’re not improving, you’re just stagnant, you’re not doing anything so. I think that important to be yourself, it’s not a negative to not be perfect straight away.”
