Taylor Swift teans up with The Chainsmokers for new remix

Taylor Swift has teamed up with The Chainsmokers for a remix of The Fate of Ophelia.

The 35-year-old popstar released the original version of the lead track from her latest album The Life of a Showgirl on 3 October and now fans can get hold of a new version, which features bolder percussion and baselines and EDM touches.

Sharing a clip of The Fate of Ophelia (The Chainsmokers Remix) on official Instagram fan account Taylor Nation, her team announced: “The Fate of Ophelia (@TheChainsmokers Remix) is wrapping around us like a chain, a crown, a vine. Download it now! (sic)”

The Chainsmokers hailed their involvement in the collaboration an “honour”.

They wrote in the comments: “This is truly and honor [prayer emoji] we love u T.(sic)”

The remix comes a few weeks after Taylor surprise released The Fate of Ophelia (Alone In My Tower – Acoustic Version), a stripped-back version of the track exclusively on iTunes.

Within just 24 hours, The Life of a Showgirl shifted 2.7 million units in the US alone — marking the biggest single-day sales of Taylor’s career and the second-highest opening week total since Luminate began tracking in 1991, trailing only Adele’s 25 at the time.

The album also smashed Spotify’s record for the most-streamed album in a single day, while lead single The Fate of Ophelia became the most-streamed song in a single day in the platform’s history.

On vinyl, the Opalite singer set a new benchmark by selling 1.2 million copies in one week, overtaking her own previous record set by The Tortured Poets Department.

Taylor loves to surprise fans and hide Easter Eggs for a “little extra layer of entertainment”.

She recently told Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2: “I really want my music to be a surprise for my fans. And I really want to figure out how to do those surprises in ways that are clever and fun for them and feel like entertainment and also if you don’t need Easter eggs then you can disregard that and that doesn’t need to happen.

“You don’t need to do math if you don’t want to but if you want a little extra layer of entertainment like I like to be able to do that and that’s why we’re so shrouded in secrecy…

“They found out a really fun one the other day which is that if you line up all of the titles of the songs on the album, in the centre, it makes the shape of The Eras Tour stage.

“And it’s, I was so pleased when they found that out. I was like, yes.

“They are everywhere. There are some weird ones that have absolutely no bearing in reality.”
