BLACKPINK’s label YG Entertainment insist ‘nothing has been decided’ about a new album

BLACKPINK’s label YG Entertainment has played down reports that the K-pop group are to release a new album in December.

Reports in South Korea have suggested that the How You Like That hitmakers – consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé – are to bring out a new record by the end of the year but YG has stressed that “nothing is decided” about the release.

The label commented: “Nothing has been decided regarding the group’s comeback.”

YG’s founder Yang Hyun-Suk suggested earlier this year that BLACKPINK were aiming to release their third studio album by November.

In an update on YG’s YouTube channel in August, he said: “A lot of fans are curious about BLACKPINK’s album. I know that the BLACKPINK members and producers in charge of them are working very hard preparing the album. I’m hoping for BLACKPINK’s album to be out by November, at the latest. That’s what I’m pushing for – we’ll do our best to get BLACKPINK’s album out soon.”

The quartet have focused on their solo careers since the release of BLACKPINK’s 2022 album Born Pink but Lisa explained earlier this year that the K-pop group were working on new material for the album.

In an interview with Variety, the 28-year-old star spilled: “Actually, we were in the studio a few days ago.

“We’re all so super excited to get back together and go on tour. We really miss the Blinks. We can’t wait to see them.”

The Sour Candy group have since embarked on their Deadline World Tour and Lisa urged fans to “be patient” as they eagerly await the new album.

The White Lotus star said: “You have to be patient about it. It’s coming soon, I promise. It’s about time.”

Meanwhile, Lisa collaborated with Maroon 5 on the song Priceless in May and the She Will Be Loved band’s frontman Adam Levine suggested that the track was reminiscent of the group’s early material.

He said: “It’s just a guitar-based song which we haven’t really done in so long. It happened first for us while we were recording the album. I think it’s just the purest and we are so happy to have Lisa on it. The guitar intro is literally me playing into an audio message on my iPhone with an unplugged guitar. I actually got a little emotional recording ‘cause it was sort of reconnecting to our roots, which a lot of our fans have been saying, ‘Hey we want to hear that sound again’. It’s been like over 20 years so I think it’s time for that to return.”
