Sam Fender to release new song featuring Elton John on piano

Sam Fender has recruited Sir Elton John for his forthcoming track Talk To You.

The featured artist on the track – which has become a firm favourite among fans since receiving its live debut in Boston on September 17 – was teased in a billboard reading: “Track 02. Talk To You (ft.)”

Sam, 31, has now confirmed that the 78-year-old music legend has tinkled the ivories on the tune, which drops on Friday (17.10.25), writing on Instagram alongside the artwork: “Talk to You featuring the legend @eltonjohn on piano, out this Friday x.”

It looks set to be included on a deluxe edition of Sam’s acclaimed third studio album People Watching, which was recently announced by the Geordie singer-songwriter.

This weekend, meanwhile, Sam will find out if People Watching is the winner of this year’s Mercury Prize.

For the first time in the prestigious music ceremony’s history, the bash will take place in Newcastle, in his end of the country.

FKA twigs, Pulp and, CMAT and Wolf Alice are also among the nominees.

The 12 shortlisted albums include CMAT’s EURO-COUNTRY, Fontaines D.C.’s Romance, twigs’ EUSEXUA, PinkPantheress’ Fancy That, Pulp’s More, and Salieu’s Afrikan Alien.

Wolf Alice received their third nomination of their career for The Clearing, having won the 2018 Mercury Prize with Visions Of A Life and being nominated for 2021’s Blue Weekend.

Jacob Alon’s In Limerence, Joe Webb’s Hamstrings and Hurricanes, Martin Carthy’s Transform Me Then Into A Fish, and Emma Thackray’s Weirdo complete the list.

The 2024 ceremony was held at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios, where English Teacher’s acclaimed debut album This Could Be Texas was crowned the winner.

The Mercury Prize takes place on October 16 at Utilita Arena.
