Former Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds was working on new music before his death with Bam Margera

Brent Hinds had been working on new music with Bam Margera shortly before his tragic death.

The former Mastodon guitarist died in a motorcycle accident on August 20, at the age of 51, and the former Jackass star was among the many to pay tribute to the axe-slayer.

The 45-year-old skater and musician also revealed that they had only recently been recording tracks together for the heavy metal band AMORE AD LUNAM.

Margera penned alongside a montage of clips of the pair on Instagram: “I am devastated and still processing the tragic loss of one of my closest friends Brent Hinds. Around the time Ryan Dunn died, I met Brent on the Soundwave Festival in Australia and said to him in a joking way “you look and act like Ryan Dunn and we should just be best friends” and he said “ok” and just like that we were.  Brent and I recently had been recording tracks on a new album with a new band I have been doing vocals with called @amoreadlunam …It has been a privilege and honor working with Brent. I cherish the time we spent together working on guitar tracks and vocals that we just very recently layed down together.  My friends Stevaughn Decay and Eman have gathered some clips and pics for a special slideshow ending with Brent breaking my arm with a golf club by accident. R.I.P brother @bhinds @mastodonrocks (sic)”

Mastodon’s Bill Kelliher hailed Bernt as “a true one-of-a-kind guitar wizard extraordinaire”.

Despite their differences, the heavy metal band’s rhythm guitarist always considered the lead guitarist “a brother” and has been left torn apart by the devastating loss.

Alongside a carousel of pictures of the pair over the years, he penned on Instagram: “It’s been hard to get a grip on my emotions this week. We had our good and bad times just like in any relationship. All that we accomplished after that first fistfight in the van 25 years ago. I didn’t think you’d be taken from us like this, absolute loss of a true one of a kind guitar wizard extraordinaire. keeping up with you taught me a lot. You were a brother, we were a family, you were a wild man not to be tamed, you could f*** up bowling ball with a feather.

You weren’t perfect but you were always DIRTY-B!! Your vagabond/gypsy/wild child lives on through your music, I will miss your crazy a** Manimal (sic)”

Hinds claimed that he had been “kicked out” of Mastodon in March, but drummer Brann Dailor insisted that there was a lot of “love” for him in the band while paying tribute to him at their gig at the Alaska State Fair on August 22.
