Stars share support for Josh Freese after Foo Fighters exit

Celebrities are sharing their support for Josh Freese after he was axed from Foo Fighters.

The 52-year-old rocker – who joined the group in 2023 after the death of Taylor Hawkins – took to Instagram to reveal he was “shocked and disappointed” after being told the band was going “in a different direction with their drummer”.

Primus drummer John Hoffman took to the comments section to write: “Bro …well, their ‘different direction’ = the wrong direction. You’re the king.”

And, Flavor Flav said: “YOOOO my GEE keep ya head and ya sticks up.”

Patrick Dempsey’s wife, Jillian Dempsey wrote: “Want me to ‘backstage SNL’ his a**?!” and Limp Bizkit’s Wes Borland said: “Wow. Wtf? Gross. I’m shook.”

Actress Wendi McLendon-Covey shared her shock, writing: “wtf?????? But hey, you’ll always be fine…. And you might actually be dodging a bullet. Love to you and your family!”

Former Police drummer Stewart Armstrong Copeland said: “This is lucky for the five other bands that you play with,” while comedian Tim Heidecker said: “Upside is you won’t have to hear any of those horrible songs ever again!” and Wolfgang Van Halen shared a confused meme.

Freese insisted no reason was given for his firing, writing on Instagram: “The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they’ve decided ‘to go in a different direction with their drummer.’ No reason was given. 🙁 Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.

“In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I’ve never been let go from a band, so while I’m not angry – just a bit shocked and disappointed.

“But as most of you know I’ve always worked freelance and bounced between bands so, I’m fine. Stay tuned for my ‘Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters’ list.”

Freese joined the group – comprised of Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee – in May 2023, just over one year after Hawkins passed away on March 25, 2022 in Bogotá, Colombia.
