James Arthur teases departure from ‘angsty’ vocals on new album

James Arthur has promised a departure from the “angsty, typical vocals” fans expect from him.

The ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ hitmaker will release his new album ‘Pisces’ next month, and he’s excited for people to hear a “more dreamy” sound.

He told the Metro newspaper’s 60 Seconds column: “I am [excited]. It’s not all angsty, typical vocals you’d hear from me.

“It’s a bit more dreamy and that’s why the ‘Pisces’ name was a good marriage.

“Being a dreamer links well with the Pisces star sign. I’ve always resonated with my star sign.”

The 37-year-old singer – whose fifth album ‘Bitter Sweet Love’ was released last year – followed the record up with single ‘ADHD’, which reflects on how his diagnosis has helped him.

He added: “It’s been helpful for me to equip the people around me to understand me better, so I feel more connected with everyone as I always felt a bit misunderstood before.”

The former ‘X Factor’ winner reflected on his achievements, including getting to play two iconic venues just days apart.

Recalled some “pinch-yourself moments”, he said: “Last year I did Wembley and The O2 in the same week, I had a number one album and a sold-out world tour.

“I did a duet with Kelly Clarkson, who’s a legend. I’ve had a lot of success with a couple of songs, too.”

However, he still has ambitions, and wants to perform at Glastonbury one year – although he’s yet to be asked to join the lineup at the iconic Worthy Farm festival.

He admitted: “They haven’t invited me but I’d love to.

“I’ve been lucky to play Wembley a few times as part of the Capital Ball but I’d love to headline there. And also get myself in contention for some awards.”
