Alan McGee suspects that Noel and Liam Gallagher’s mother Peggy is behind Oasis reunion

Noel and Liam Gallagher’s mother Peggy is a key factor behind the Oasis reunion, according to Alan McGee.

The ‘Roll With It’ rockers have confirmed their much-anticipated comeback with a series of gigs in the UK and Ireland next year and McGee – who signed the Britpop legends to his Creation Records label in 1993 – suspects that Peggy, 81, was the driving force behind the siblings making their peace after 15 years of feuding.

Alan told Virgin Radio: “I’m sure she is behind the whole thing.

“Peggy is great, she is rocking on.”

The former record label boss also doubts that Noel and Liam will fall out again amid the pair’s often tempestuous relationship.

McGee said: “They’re really professional. I don’t think it (falling out) will be an issue.”

Meanwhile, music insiders have revealed that bands including Fontaines DC and Kasabian – as well as Liam’s son Gene’s band Villanelle – are in the frame to open the shows in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Opening for Oasis is the hottest ticket in town.

“Talks are ongoing with groups like Fontaines DC and Kasabian, as well as Gene Gallagher’s band Villanelle who opened for Liam’s ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour.

“As Liam would say, the chance to perform at those shows would be ‘biblical’.”

There had been speculation about a possible Oasis reunion but things ramped up after Liam teased fans during his performance at Reading Festival on Sunday (25.08.24).

The 51-year-old musician hinted at a mysterious date towards the end of his set at Reading, when “27.08.24” appeared on a screen behind him, while the same date also appeared on Liam and Noel’s X accounts.

In a statement confirming their return, the ‘Supersonic’ band said: “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”
