Simon Kinberg thinks X-Men: Apocalypse will be even ‘bigger’

Simon Kinberg says ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will be even "bigger" than the franchise’s seven previous films.

The producer behind ‘X-Men: First Class’ (2011) and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ (2014) – the latest in the Marvel comic book-based series – believes the next installment of the movie franchise will top all previous efforts.

He told Collider.com: "Apocalypse, because of the nature of apocalypse and all of the roll and emeric style destruction that comes with it, felt like it was a bigger movie and felt like it was an opportunity to follow our main ‘First Class’ characters in the next step of their lives.

"It’ll pick up after Days of Future Past, in the past, it’ll be a few years later."

Although the 40-year-old screenwriter and producer has no doubts about the movie’s potential for success he admitted his team struggled to come up with a story worthy of following ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’.

He said: "We’re at the beginning of the scripting phase. We’ve already been working on the story since we were shooting ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ and we were on set, Brian [Singer] and the other producers Lauren and Hotch Parker we all talked about what the next chapter of the X-Men would be.

"It’s a hard movie to follow because you’re never really going to get all the cast back together. The event of ‘Days of Future Past’ is almost like our ‘Avengers’. So it’s, how do we take the story forward and in some ways build on the scope and scale of the franchise with mass characters."

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ – starring Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and James McAvoy – will be directed by Bryan Singer and although plot details are yet to be released the film is set to hit cinemas in 2016.
