Pearl Jam hit the road for Dark Matter world tour

Pearl Jam are heading back out on the road for a huge world tour this year.

Eddie Vedder’s band announced plans for the 35-date trek shortly after confirming their new album ‘Dark Matter’ – their 12th studio album – will arrive on April 19. The ‘Dark Matter’ tour will span nine countries and kicks off on May 4 in Vancouver, Canada.

The group will tour North America before heading to Europe in June with shows in Dublin, Ireland on June 22 and in Manchester, England on June 25 before a huge gig in London on June 29.

They will then head to countries including Germany, Spain and Portugal before heading back to the US and then concluding the tour with shows in New Zealand and Australia in November with the trek wrapping in Sydney on November 21.

Support acts will include Deep Sea Diver and Glen Hansard on the first and second North American legs respectively while Murder Capitol will join them for some European shows, The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft in Dublin and London and Pixies will join the tour in Australia and New Zealand.

The tour will support the band’s new ‘Dark Matter’ album, which frontman Vedder has described as the band’s “best work”.

Speaking at a listening event in Los Angeles last month, he said of the record: “I’m getting chills because I have good memories. We’re still looking for ways to communicate.

“We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful, and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”
