TV presenter Kate Garraway had same therapy as Prince Harry

Television presenter Kate Garraway had the same EDMR therapy as the Duke of Sussex.

The 54-year-old ‘Good Morning Britain’ co-host says she’s had the exact same treatment as the 36-year-old royal after he showed an example of the technique during his new mental health documentary.

Kate turned to that particular type of therapy, which advocates tapping hands or moving eyes as a technique to overcome psychological trauma, after her husband Derek Draper contracted COVID-19 and suffered with the virus so badly that he was forced to spend months in hospital, with many of them in a coma.

Speaking on ‘GMB’ on Friday (21.05.21), she said: “It’s called Eye Movement Desentisiation Reprocessing, a bit of a mouthful, I have actually had a little bit of this. It’s not a million miles away from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, processes like this. Less to do with therapy where you talk about your childhood, it’s more practical.”

Speaking in his new docu-series ‘The Me You Can’t See’ Prince Harry said it was his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who had convinced him to seek professional help, after he’d buried his emotions about the death of his mother Princess Diana in 1997 when he was just 12 deep inside.

He said: “There was a lot of learning right at the beginning of our relationship. She was shocked to be coming backstage of the institution of the British royal family.

“When she said, ‘I think you need to see someone,’ that was in reaction to an argument we had. And in that argument, not knowing about it, I reverted back to 12-year-old Harry.

“The moment I started therapy and probably within my second session, my therapist turned around to me, and said, ‘That sounds like you are reverting to 12-year-old Harry.’ I felt somewhat ashamed and defensive.

“She said, ‘I’m not calling you a child. I’m expressing sympathy and empathy for you for what happened to you when you were a child. You never processed it. You were never allowed to talk about it. And all of a sudden now, it’s coming up in different ways as projection.’

“That was the start of a learning journey for me.”
