The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had an instant attraction to one another, according to one of their university friends who shared a dormitory with them.
American singer/songwriter Laura Warshauer says the chemistry between Prince William and Duchess Catherine – then known as Kate Middleton – was apparent from the start as the future British monarch was “always paying attention” to his future wife whenever she was in the room.
Laura, who hails from New Jersey, told PEOPLE: “Whenever Kate was in the room, Will was obviously paying attention to her.
“When we’d be sitting at lunch in the dining hall and the two of them would be talking, it was amazing to see how natural it was, how they had so much to say to each other.
“Looking back, there were all these small moments—certainly moments where I was like, ‘Wow, this could really be something.'”
The trio met in 2001 when they all attended the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
During their time there they all resided at St Salvator’s Hall and Laura referred to William as “Will Wales” when he lived down the corridor, whilst Catherine’s room was downstairs.
On April 29, William, 38, and Catherine, 39, celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary, and since they tied t the knot in a fairy tale ceremony the couple have had three children, Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three.
Previously speaking about her first encounter with William, Catherine recalled she went “bright red” and “scuttled off”.
Speaking about her husband-to-be during a 2010 interview to announce their engagement, she said: “I actually think I went bright red when I met you and sort of scuttled off, feeling very shy about meeting you. It did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other but we did become very close friends from quite early.”
