Princess Beatrice: Dyslexia is a ‘gift’

Princess Beatrice views her dyslexia as a “tremendous gift”.

The 32-year-old royal has struggled with the learning disorder but has grown to accept her condition and wants young suffers to “tap into their strengths” and embrace the positives.

She said: “It’s no secret that I struggled with my dyslexia as a child and often even wished it away. But now I see it as a tremendous gift and I want every dyslexic child to know that they too can tap into their dyslexic strengths.”

Beatrice has narrated a new children’s book about dyslexic thinking, ‘Xtraordinary People’, which has been written by Made By Dylsexia founder Kate Griggs to encourage kids to embrace their “xtraordinary strengths” and she urged children to work to find their own “superpower”.

The princess – who is an ambassador for the charity – said: “What you may not know about me is that I am Made By Dyslexia, which was a bit of struggle at school but now, thanks to all the practice and a lot of support, I feel so lucky to be Made By Dyslexia and working with some incredible organisations, who are there to support you on your journey to find out what your superpower is.

“So today, I am thrilled to be reading this amazing book called ‘Xtraordinary People’.”

Beatrice – who is married to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi – recently spoke of how much she enjoys reading to her stepson, five-year-old Wolfie.

She said: “This year, I had the great honour to become a stepmother, and have had the most remarkable time going back over some of my most favourite stories at bedtime.

“Together, we had such a special time reading through all the entries for Oscars Book Prize 2020…

“My stepson has been, as many children have, home schooling this term.

“Helping him to engage with stories is a great journey to inspire imagination, creativity, independence and humour. If you have not yet read the ‘Oi Frog’ books by Kes Grey and Jim Field, they have fast become our favourite.

“We have all had to learn new ways to cope with the strangest of times. For our family, reading stories has been a great part of our journey to finding laughter and a little magic on the journey.”
