Top Gear drops popular segment

‘Top Gear’ has been forced to drop the ‘Star In A Reasonably Priced Car’ segment due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The BBC motor show – which is fronted by Chris Harris, Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness – will return to screens next month with a few adjustments to adapt to the ongoing pandemic, including the popular segment which saw celebrities take on the show’s own race track in a reasonably priced car.

Chris told Radio Times: "It wasn’t my favourite element. It was deemed to be an important component of the show, but in the wake of recent events it was the obvious thing to go.

"That’s not to say that there won’t be any guests on the show in the future – but my feeling is if we have them, we should do more with them than just sit in the studio."

The trio returned to filming on the programme in June after production was halted in March due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

The show has used "strictly limited" crews and has adhered to government guidelines so shooting could re-commence.

Charlotte Moore, the broadcaster’s director of content, said: "We’re also exploring ways to re-start filming on more dramas and other major BBC shows as soon as possible."

The show is also being filmed in front of a drive-in audience in a bid to maintain social distancing.
